I love living in Austin. I have been here almost four years now. It’s a nice place to live. I am an avid volunteer. I am committed to the green space around me and am working to educate and embrace my community. I am a Master Gardener. Trees and plants light me up. The Cactus Region is a whole new place for me. I have been experimenting and planting in my yard steadily over the last three years. My yard is definitely a work in progress and probably always will be. The garden, as is life, is constantly changing. I have two fantastic dogs; Zephyr and and Kenai. Sadly, my third dog, Helen, passed away on Feb 1, 2012. We had 13 incredible years together. There is a huge hole in my heart right now that is only filled with the wonderful memories of our time together. My heart has healed from my loss of Helen and the two boys chose Miss Daisy, a sweet little hound from the shelter. She's a two year old, fawn colored with white paws and her front left leg is all white. It's like she's wearing an evening glove, reminds me of Audry Hepburn. Life continues to transition. I love Kenya coffee from Caribou, it's my favorite. I limit myself to one french press per day. It's my morning treat to start the day. In a recent order they had a wonderful flyer enclosed. It read: Life is short. Hold hands, not grudges. Max out your passport. Grow older without growing up. Do something that scares you. Get your hands dirty. Adopt an animal. Shave your head, at least once. Make time for silly. Savor every sip. Walk, don't drive. Skip, don't walk. Do it for love, not profit. Be the first to apologize. Plug the meter for someone else. Plant lots of trees. Learn to dance a jig. Listen first, talk second. Build communities, not empires. Thank a teacher. Stay awake for it. I like to live my life that way. Kindness is something that is important to me. There is no reason why we humans cannot treat our environment, our family and friends, our food sources, and each other with genuine kindness.
